Acupuncture is the insertion of extremely fine needles into specific acupuncture points situated along the pathways on the body, known as meridians in order to regulate the flow of qi and activate the healing process. These meridians flow along the surface of the body and through the internal organs. By stimulating these points with acupuncture needles, stagnant qi and/or blood can be unblocked, energy can be directed to or away from a deficient or excessive organ, and yin and yang can be rebalanced.

These effects produced by acupuncture enhance and activate the body’s ability to heal itself, promoting physical and mental health.

According to modern science, research suggests that acupuncture dramatically controls pain by stimulating the nervous system to release endorphins and enkephalins, the body’s natural painkilling chemicals. Other research suggests that acupuncture alters blood flow in the brain and may prompt the release of certain brain hormones, such as serotonin, which transmit nerve impulses.

Acupuncture may also cause the pituitary gland to discharge pain-blockers and to initiate a process that releases anti-inflammatory agents into the bloodstream.

Auricular (Ear) Acupuncture is similar to acupuncture but concentrates on the ear. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the ear is an important organ having many points on it corresponding to the body systems and it is said that all the main meridians cross the ear. It is a microcosm of the macrocosm: the ear represents the entire body.

Chinese Herbal Medicine is a complex science that has been used for thousands of years to help strengthen and nourish the body’s qi and blood to promote healing. It treats the root of the problem, relieves symptoms, and restores normal body functions. Chinese herbal medicine can be used in conjunction with acupuncture or on its own.

There are over 500 substances in its pharmacopia. Most herbs are derived from roots, barks, stems, leaves, flowers, and seeds. They may be cooked into teas, dried into powdered granules, processed into pills, alcohol-extracts, water-extracts or even used topically in teas, plasters, liniments, etc. Each formula is tailored specifically for the patient’s individual condition.

Unlike most western medications, Chinese herbal medicine has a low risk of adverse side effects. Chinese and Western medicine are not substitutes for each other, rather they are complementary.

Cupping is used to improve blood circulation and stimulate the internal organs. Glass cups are applied to the body by heating the inside of the cup, creating a vacuum. The patient feels a mild pulling sensation, calming the sympathetic nerves and allowing for deep relaxation. Cupping reduces pain and swelling and speeds the natural healing process.

Electro-Acupuncture is the use of an electrical device to provide a continuous, gentle stimulation to specific acupuncture needles. The mild current flowing through the needles improves the healing of injured or inflamed joints or muscles, increases pain killing endorphin release, and stimulates the nervous system to promote balanced function and a sense of well-being.

Traditionally, Gua Sha is used on the meridians of the body to help increase blood circulation and move toxins to the lymphatic system so they can be expelled naturally.

When incorporating Gua Sha into facials, we use a much lighter pressure to gently increase blood circulation to the face. By increasing blood circulation, nutrients and fresh oxygenated blood can reach the skin’s surface. This results in our skin looking healthier and glowing from the inside out.

To enhance the effects your facial acupuncture treatment, we will incorporate LED light therapy. This stimulates micro-circulation in the skin, decreases inflammation, improves lymphatic drainage, softens fine lines and wrinkles, increases the production of collagen and elastin, and delays the signs of aging.

Moxibustion is a form of heat therapy which involves the process of burning the dried herb, Artemesia Vulgaris, also known as Mugwort, just above the skin to warm and stimulate specific acupuncture points to treat and prevent disease. It is very soothing and completely painless.
